Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas is proud and thankful for the privilege given to him to lead the Infrastructure Development Committee (IDC) of the Regional Development Council (RDC)-6.

Treñas presided the 2025 First Quarter regular meeting of the committee for the last time as chairman of the IDC.

“It has been a privilege to work alongside dedicated leaders and stakeholders, all committed to ensuring equal development across every province in our region,” the city mayor, who served as IDC chair since 2022, expressed.

The committee, on their part, commended Treñas’ exemplary leadership and dedicated service as chairperson of the committee, leaving a lasting legacy of excellence, transparency, and accountability.

“His commitment to keeping the Committee proactive and responsive to the region’s infrastructure needs has significantly advanced the nation’s development agenda. Under his guidance, the Committee reviewed and endorsed key projects, formulated strategic investment plans, coordinated inter-agency efforts, and addressed critical development concerns,” the Plaque of Commendation signed by IDC co-chair Ma. Luisa Segovia, read.

Meanwhile, Treñas is elated and thankful that some of the dream projects of the Western Visayans are finally coming true and soon, will benefit the region. He cited, for instance, the Panay-Guimaras-Negros Bridge.

“You know, for several years, everyone has dreamed this when we were in Congress. I prepared the resolution to be signed by all the congressmen in Western Visayas to ask the government to prioritize this and that was 2010. It’s now 2025, thankfully, but that dream has always been with us, even before I became congressman. Finally, makasiling kita, dream come true,” Treñas narrated.

He shared some important milestones and timelines towards the realization of the project which include the signing of loan agreement in September 2025, start of civil works in July 2026, and completion and opening of the bridge in June 2028.

The city mayor noted that the people of Panay are also excited for the Jalaur River Multi-Purpose Project (JRMP) II, which will provide more water for Iloilo.

Treñas expressed his gratitude to Segovia, and the entire committee for their dedication, especially during his medical leave. “Even in my absence, you made sure critical projects were reviewed and endorsed to the national government for action,” he said.

Another major achievement of the committee was the fast-tracking of the privatization of the Iloilo International Airport.

“This project had been delayed for years, but the committee pushed hard to move it forward — and we will continue doing the same to see it through,” he added.

Treñas looks forward to everyone’s continued teamwork for other key projects like the Panay River Basin, the airport expansion, the Aganan Flyover retrofit, and the ongoing works at Sunset Boulevard. (GSTayona/Iloilo City PIO)
