Treñas orders intensified police visibility amid recent incidents

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas has directed the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) to intensify police visibility, particularly in key areas near 24/7 call centers.
This, following two recent mauling incidents involving call center agents in Mandurriao district.
“The Mayor remains unwavering in his commitment that Iloilo City will never return to a time when safety was uncertain. Under his leadership, peace and order will always remain a top priority,” the mayor’s spokesperson, Joy Fantilaga, said.
Treñas reassured residents and visitors alike that Iloilo City continues to uphold its reputation as a safe, secure, and welcoming community.
The city’s strong emphasis on safety is one of the driving factors behind its growing population and the influx of businesses and investors.
Based on the ICPO report, a significant decline in crime rates was recorded from January to April 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
Total crime incidents dropped from 2,587 to 1,692, while focus crimes under the Peace and Order Index fell dramatically by 42.5 percent, from 127 incidents to just 73.
Remarkably, murder cases were halved from six to three, physical injury cases dropped from 25 to eight, and theft incidents decreased from 68 to 41.
“These numbers are a testament to the effectiveness of the city’s ongoing initiatives to reinforce public safety and strengthen law enforcement efforts,” Fantilaga added.
The Iloilo City Government and the ICPO remain committed to safety and progress while responding decisively to any emerging challenges. (GSTayona/Iloilo City PIO)
