64 hired on the spot at PESO Paraw Job Fair
Hundreds of job seekers tried their luck with several companies during Iloilo City Public Employment Services Office (PESO) Paraw Regatta Festival Job Fair at SM City Iloilo March 13.
Of 588 applicants, 297 were qualified, 163 were brought to another round of interviews, and 64 were hired on the spot.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas encouraged applicants to join regular job fairs organized by PESO and partners for them to find employment opportunities.
PESO Head Gabriel Felix Umadhay said the activity was successful which brought 27 companies offering 2,679 jobs available locally and abroad.
PESO developed a digital system through online pre-registration to facilitate the fast processing of applications which will save them a great time, unlike the traditional way of holding job fairs.
“We put a premium on comfort not just on employers but also on the job applicants. We want to help them with their applications, and on our part, this digital system will make it easy for us to store applicant’s information if companies would need them,” Umadhay said.
He emphasized that aside from celebrating the Paraw Regatta Festival, PESO is devoted to showing responsibility to residents by making government services readily available and job opportunities within their reach.
“I am thankful to the business industries for partnering with us to hire so many Ilonggos as they saw their potentials. To the job seekers, this will not be an easy ride, but I challege you to train yourself and be equipped with skills that you will need soon,” he added.
PESO continues to bring employment opportunities and address skills mismatch through career caravans in schools, raising awareness on labor market information on youth, and special recruitment activity held at Sunburst Park every Wednesday. (Angelo Miranda/Iloilo City PIO)
