MORE Power starts Bill Deposit Refund program
Qualified electricity consumers in Iloilo City may now claim bill deposit refund from More Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power).
The Bill Deposit is an amount required from all customers of all power distribution utilities as a guarantee for payment of electric bills. It is equivalent to the estimated billing for one month.
The ceremonial turnover of bill deposit refund to three qualified consumers held at MORE Power’s Corporate Center on Friday, June 2 was graced by Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Commissioner Alexis Lumbatan.
“Bihirang bihira po for any distribution utility (DU) to return the bill at the instance of the DU. I am so happy that I am here today, taking part of this great milestone. Mismong si DU tumatawag sa mga consumers to return the bill the deposit,” said Lumbatan.
According to the Magna Carta for Residential Electricity Consumers, a consumer who has paid his electric bills on or before the due date for three consecutive years is entitled to Bill Deposit refund.
“So dapat unblemished or wala pong paltos yung three years ninyo na pagbayad on time, on or before the due date, para po kayo mag-qualify,” Lumbatan explained.
“That is where I can draw the line, between the DU that is customer focused. Because even if the customer do not ask for it, we go out of our way to inform the customers that this is due you, and if you like it we could return it,” said Roel Z. Castro, President of MORE Power.
“For the rest of the year, if the customers that we’ve identify will not fail, we will actually be returning I think over 5 million pesos of bill deposit refund to customers. This is really hard-earned money of the customers. That’s one side the other side is we are following the law. The law says we have to follow the magna carta and the magna carta says, we have to return it,” Castro added.
Who are qualified and can claim the bill deposit refund
The customers who are eligible for the Bill Deposit Refund program of MORE Power are the following:
- Registered customers who have a valid service contract with MORE Power;
- Registered customers who have paid their Bill Deposit to MORE Power; and
- Registered customers who have paid their electric bills on or before its due date for three consecutive years.
Note: Only registered customers, their heirs, successors-in-interest, or authorized representatives can receive their refund.
How much is the refund? The amount a qualified customers will get includes the principal bill deposit and its interests. Refunds can be in check or credit to future billings.
To claim the bill deposit refund, registered customers must bring valid ID such as driver’s license, passport, PRC license, etc. For their authorized representatives, they must bring valid ID of registered customer and authorized representative Special Power of Attorney (SPA) to claim the bill deposit refund.
