MORE Power ‘Guardians’ plant 300 trees in Lapaz Eco-park’
As part of its initiatives aimed at making the planet a greener and more livable place, More Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) team planted 300 tree saplings at the Global Business Power – Eco Park in Barangay Ingore, Lapaz last Saturday, November 5.
MORE Power workforce and its “Guardians of the Environment” security personnel volunteered to help in the tree-planting activity. According to Ma. Cecilia Pe-Calunod, Asst. Vice President of Customer Care of MORE Power, this is part of the 5-year sustainable project of Iloilo City’s sole distribution utility.
“So for the next 5 years si More Power, naga commit gid siya nga magtanum siya sang 10,000 trees. For this year, we are committing ourselves to plant 2,000 trees. So sa subong towards the end of the year, we are planning to plant 1000 more trees,” says Calunod.
“This is part of MORE Power’s commitment to environmental stewardship, where we continuously contribute to the greening initiative of the Ilonggo community,” she added.
Iloilo City, a highly urbanized city, acknowledges the importance and benefits of trees for a livable and sustainable community.
Planting trees is essential but tree growing is critical to avert the harsh impacts of climate change like super typhoons, monsoon rains, landslides, and erratic weather conditions.
In February 2022, MORE Power also conducted a tree planting activity as part of their 3rd Anniversary celebration.
Dubbed as #DoMORE Initiatives, the company continues to do several environmental and sustainability efforts for Iloilo City such as bloodletting activity, mangrove and tree planting, fingerlings releasing, and urban gardening.
