Iloilo City to host 2024 CityNet ExeCom meeting
Iloilo City will be hosting the 44th CityNet Executive Committee (ExeCom) meeting slated on October 23 to 25 next year.
This was announced by Mayor Jerry P. Treñas who recently attended this year’s CityNet ExeCom meeting as a member of the Executive Board.
The city made an unchallenged bid for the hosting, thus, the Board approved it.
“It is now final. The 2024 CityNet Executive Committee will be in Iloilo City on Oct. 23 to 25, 2024. We will have a chance to showcase the best programs and what Iloilo has to offer. I ask everyone to help me prepare a program for the members of the Executive Board,” the city mayor stated.
He said he has also plans to invite members of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) so they can have a parallel program with their alumni as well.
CityNet is the largest association of urban stakeholders committed to sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region. It aims to connect actors, exchange knowledge and build commitment to establish more sustainable and resilient cities.
Established in 1987 with the support of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, the United Nations Development Programme, and United Nations-Habitat, the network of cities has grown to include over 173 municipalities, non-government organizations, private companies, and research centers.
Meanwhile, after attending the Executive Board meeting, Treñas will go to the City of DoBongGu on Thursday to pursue the city-to-city agreement for Iloilo City.
He said he will invite the city to attend and join the Dinagyang 2024 festivities.
Other sister cities and prospective sister cities will also be invited to the Dinagyang. (Iloilo City PIO)
