Iloilo City hosts 44th CityNet Execom this November
It’s official – Iloilo City will be hosting the CityNet’s 44th Executive Committee (Execom) Meeting 2024 on Nov. 18-20.
This, after Mayor Jerry Treñas signed Sept. 5 the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the CityNet Secretariat as members witnessed via Zoom the Online Ceremonial MOU Signing.
The assembly is expected to gather over a hundred participants from abroad and around the country.
Execom, responsible for execution of policies established by General Council, holds the meeting to convene and discuss the direction of the organization.
Treñas attended last year’s meeting in South Korea as a member of the Executive Board after being elected in 2022, where he made an unchallenged bid for the hosting and was approved.
“We will have a chance to showcase the best programs and what Iloilo has to offer. I ask everyone to help in the preparation for the successful event,” the mayor stated.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Awards which debuted at 9th CityNet Congress in 2022 is back as cities are encouraged to submit their best practice cases to the Urban SDG Knowledge Platform. After a period of voting and evaluation, winners will be selected to be honored at the SDG Awards Ceremony.
CityNet is the largest association of urban stakeholders committed to sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region. It aims to connect actors, exchange knowledge and build commitment to establish more sustainable and resilient cities.
Established in 1987 with the support of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, United Nations Development Programme, and United Nations-Habitat, the network of cities has grown to include over 173 municipalities, non-government organizations, private companies, and research centers.
