Iloilo City inaugurates 2 Drilon bridges
Iloilo City Government inaugurated two bridges in honor of outstanding Ilonggos from the Drilon family during the unveiling ceremony June 5.
Markers were unveiled for Atty. Cesar M. Drilon Sr. Bridge connecting barangays Yulo-Arroyo, City Proper and Rizal, Lapuz; and Dr. Rex D. Drilon Bridge connecting President Roxas, City Proper and Rizal, La Paz.
These are tributes to their contributions to the city’s progress.
Atty. Cesar M. Drilon Sr. was the father of former Senate president Franklin M. Drilon, who has been instrumental in the city’s development by bringing in big projects such as Iloilo River rehabilitation, esplanades, roads and bridges, among others.
Dr. Rex D. Drilon became the First Filipino President of Central Philippine University (CPU) in 1966, after 13 American presidents; and credited for his initiatives for the improvements of the educational institution.
Mayor Jerry Treñas together with members of the Drilon Family led by Sen. Drilon and siblings; Lone District Congresswoman Julienne Baronda; Governor Arthur Defensor Jr.; CPU President Teodoro Robles; and city councilors, City Hall department heads and executive assistants graced the ceremony.
“These bridges hold profound significance for our community, paying homage to the remarkable contributions and legacies of Atty. Cesar Drilon and Dr. Rex Drilon. Through their immense dedication and achievements, they have left an indelible mark on our city’s history,” Treñas said.
“With the unveiling of these markers, we immortalize their inspiring stories and lasting impact. These bridges stand as enduring symbols of unity, progress, and the interconnectivity of our city,” he added.
“Every year, Iloilo regains its pride and its place. I grew up in this city, that is why I want to give what is best for the Ilonggos and for the city. These bridges symbolize growth and kinship,” stressed Sen. Drilon. (Alexandra Jover/Iloilo City PIO)
