Each of 150 athletes and coaches from public schools will get around P20,000 for their meal and transportation allowances and other related expenses. They are getting a total of P3.9 million, which was sourced out from the city’s Special Education Fund (SEF).
Jungco emphasized that under the existing rules, the SEF must be used only to provide assistance in the operation and maintenance of public schools; construction and repair of school buildings, facilities, and equipment; educational development and research; sports enhancement, and among others.
Meanwhile, the 212 athletes and coaches from private schools will get a P4,000 allowance each or a total of P848,000 sourced out from the city’s General Fund and Trust Fund.
Jungco explained that considering it is almost yearend, the only available fund left for the said sport event under the General Fund is P148, 000. This is being augmented by the P700,000 Trust Fund from the city’s Batang Pinoy incentives.
To recall, during the Batang Pinoy 2022 National Championship, Iloilo City was ranked 5th and was entitled to cash incentive from the Philippine Sports Commission which has been deposited as a Trust Fund.
