Iloilo City continues to prioritize the welfare of its senior citizens with the inauguration and blessing ceremony of the new Senior Citizen Building at Alta Tierra Village, Barangay M.V. Hechanova, Jaro, on February 4.
The newly built center aims to provide a dedicated space for recreation and community engagement, ensuring that Ilonggo elders have a place to gather, socialize, and access essential services.
Mayor Jerry Treñas led the ceremony alongside Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon and city councilors. Representative Rodolfo Ordanes of the Senior Citizens Party List also graced the event, highlighting the national government’s commitment to supporting elderly citizens.
The project, made possible through a ₱13.5 million fund from the Senior Citizens Party List, was implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways Regional Office VI. The facility is set to be officially turned over to the Iloilo City Government.
“A meaningful day as we inaugurated our Senior Citizens’ Center, a place where our elders are valued and cared for,” Mayor Treñas stated. “This center reflects our commitment to ensuring their well-being, providing programs and services that enhance their quality of life. We also welcomed from the event the representatives of the Senior Citizens Party-list.”
The new Jaro facility marks the third senior citizens’ center in Iloilo City, joining those in Barangay PHHC Block 22, Mandurriao, and Barangay Sta. Filomena, Arevalo. These centers serve as vital hubs for elderly residents, offering programs aimed at their continued empowerment and active participation in the community.
With the support of the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) and various stakeholders, Iloilo City remains steadfast in its mission to enhance the lives of senior citizens, recognizing their invaluable contributions to the city.
