Covid-19 threat in the country culprit for postponed events.
Iloilo City Government postpones Iloilo events such as the Iloilo Summer Arts Festival and Paraw Regatta Festival. It can be recalled that President Rodrigo Duterte declared a State of Public Health Emergency after the Department of Health reported the very first local transmission of Covid-19 in the country. To date, there are a total of ten (10) confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the country.
“In light of the present situation of Covid-19 in the country and the various protocols suggested by the DOH and WHO, I am hereby directing that the Iloilo Summer Arts Festival be transferred to October of this year. By then the situation would have already improved and concerns with Covid-19 would hopefully have diminished,” in a statement posted in the Iloilo City Government page.
“The Paraw Regatta Festival will have to be postponed for the same reasons. I will sit down with the organizers to discuss what date is most feasible under the circumstances. I will be sitting down with school authorities to discuss what best should be done about scheduled baccalaureate masses and graduation ceremonies,” it adds.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas also aired his sentiments on his Facebook page.
“For the safety of the Ilonggo people against COVID-19, we are canceling all the activities that hold a massive crowd, including Paraw Regatta Festival, Iloilo Summer Arts Festival, sports events and moving up ceremonies of daycare centers in the city. I will also coordinate with the provincial government through Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. to intensify the means of providing our security against coronavirus disease,” said Treñas.
